SME Guides
My business and human rights
The United Nation Guiding Principles (the UNGPs), and the concept of Human Rights itself, may seem challenging to understand for many businesses. In 2012 the EU Commission asked GLOBAL CSR to write a guide for SMEs in Europe on the subject. Our Guide on Business and Human Rights for Small and Medium Enterprises was published by the European Commission in 2012 and translated into a total of 25 languages.
In 2015, the guide disappeared from the EU Commission homepage in conjunction with other changes. The translated guides, that provides an easy explanation of the topic of human rights in relation to responsible business conduct, have now been retrieved and can all be accessed here.
In view of the uptake of the UNGPs the Guide is even more relevant today in the 25 language editions; to better reach more people and enterprises. (Choose your favorite and get started!). Although written in 2012 the Guide is still correct. Today we could add numerous practical examples of both policy commitments, impact assessments as part of human rights due diligence, and models for access to remedy. Hence, our firm recommendation: Read the guide – and ‘just do it’.”
The guide is available in the following 25 languages: Bulgarian (BG), Chinese (CN), Croatian (HR), Danish (DK), Dutch (NL), English (EN), Estonian (EE), Finnish (FI), French (FR), German (DE), Greek (GR), Hungarian (HU), Italian (IT), Japanese (JP), Latvian (LV), Lithuanian (LT), Polish (PL), Portuguese (PT), Romanian (RO), Slovak (SK), Slovenian (SL), Spanish (ES), Swedish (SE), Turkish (TR), Ukrainian (UA).
